Hi, I’m Madeline. I’m a millennial, a Chicagoan, and a coffee addict — but most importantly, I’m a librarian and an archivist. I’m a creative and a communicator, and I’m passionate about serving populations with the resources that will improve their work, their imagination, and their lives.
I’ll bring plenty of talent to your organization: I work a reference interview like nobody’s business, I avidly espouse More Product Less Process, I love planning a good program, and I can whip up promotional flyers no problem. But I’ve also got the soft skills your staff needs. I’m a team player and a self-starter who loves taking notes in meetings. I can take charge of a situation or gently guide someone new into leadership positions. I’m patient, a great listener, and always eager to learn something new. And did I mention I bake?
When I’m not hunting down resources for a library’s community members, working with a programming team to plan a library’s next great event, or blowing dust off of files to be processed for an archive, I’m curating an international online community for hundreds of women every month. My blog MaddieMadeThis.com and its social media channels have a worldwide audience of women (and some men!) who look to me for inspiration, guidance, and tutorials. I am incredibly proud of the feedback I get every month telling me I’ve empowered someone to take up a new skill or inspired them to resurrect something they’d never thought they’d do again.
My social media and web skills will transfer to the work I do for you, too. Does SEO make you go “SE-no”? I can help you out. Can’t make sense of hashtags? I’ll find the best ones for your organization to use. My fresh and funny voice translates well to social media, and I love building a community of engaged and interested patrons. Basic HTML and CSS skills, as well as introductory Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator knowledge complement my social media knowledge well.
Here’s what I can promise your organization: 100% investment in all that I do, and an honest and creative approach to solving your problems. My basic skill set of authentic customer service, an information-seeking mind, and attention to detail translates into a myriad of situations, and all of them will benefit your staff and your community members. I’d love to talk to you more about how I can help you specifically: please feel free to email me at m30mcdermott [at] gmail.com. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, and I hope to talk to you soon!
